August 14, 2020 – Los Angeles, CA – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Bronx River Futbol Club (BRFC) as its newest Division I member.

Based in the Bronx, NY, Bronx River FC will begin UPSL play in the 2020 Fall Season as part of the American Division. The club will play its UPSL home games at Soundview Park Soccer Field in compliance with UPSL National Division I standards.

UPSL American Division Manager Paul Konneh said, "We are very excited to welcome Bronx River Futbol Club to the UPSL's American Division. The club has strong ownership that is invested in the community, and they are focused on bringing the great game of soccer to the people of the Bronx. We wish them well as they get ready to kick off in the UPSL."

Bronx River FC is a newly-created club operated by an ownership group led by Ed Romero, the current president of Sporting Astoria Soccer Club. Since 2002, Romero has consistently increased the profile of his club by assembling winning teams and expanding the club's footprint by creating partnerships with local youth and professional soccer clubs.

"The Bronx has given us everything we have – our field and our network of players, supporters and wonderful partners. The soccer-playing and soccer-loving community has embraced us and with unconditional support. We feet it was the perfect time to bring the UPSL to the Bronx," Romero said.

Bronx River FC is part of a partnership between South Bronx United youth soccer academy, local Queens, NY-based amateur team Sporting Astoria Soccer Club and Bronx-based pro team New Amsterdam Football Club (NISA).

"We want to provide a true grassroots soccer club experience to the community with fan engagement, match-day events, merchandise and social media content," Romero said. "The Bronx has some of the best soccer talent in New York City and there's no better place to showcase that talent than the United Premier Soccer League."

Bronx River Futbol Club is an American Soccer club currently based in the Bronx, NY, and a new member of the United Premier Soccer League. Bronx River FC will play in the UPSL's American Division.

Bronx River FC can participate in the qualifying rounds for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup through their affiliation and membership with the UPSL, the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 300 teams nationwide. The UPSL is the largest Pro Development League in North America. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated.

UPSL teams are eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the league's affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
