January 27, 2020 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Inland Empire Republic FC as a member kicking off with the 2020 Spring Season.
Based in Colton (Calif.), Inland Empire FC will begin UPSL play in the Western Conference SoCal Division. The club will host its home games at Colton High School (777 W. Valley Blvd, Colton CA 92324) in compliance with UPSL National League standards.
United Premier Soccer League SoCal Division Manager Gary Brunner said, "We are pleased to welcome Inland Empire Republic FC to the UPSL's SoCal Division. Most people already know that the Inland area of Southern California is loaded with talent. The UPSL now has at least 10 teams in the region as the league continues to grow with committed ownership and healthy communication. Owner Gabriel Placencia has a strong grasp of the area's players having been a local college coach, and he brings a lot of success at that level to the club. We wish Coach Placencia and Inland Empire Republic FC success in preparation for the upcoming 2020 Spring Season."
Inland Empire Republic FC is owned and operates under GFC Inc. and will compete exclusively in the UPSL.
Inland Empire Republic FC Owner Gabriel Placencia said, "The UPSL's professional way of doing things, compared to the NPSL, is what has caught my attention. As a long-time college coach I see most college players sit idle after their college seasons. The UPSL provides a home for these players with a professional environment, and tough competition against high-quality teams."
An Inland Empire native, Placencia was a talented youth player and counts former Stanford Men's Assistant Coach Rob Becerra, current L.A. Galaxy (MLS) II Head Coach Junior Gonzalez, former Hungarian National Team goalkeeper Steve Birsak and current San Bernardino Valley (Calif.) College Head Coach Josh Brown among his former coaches and mentors.
Placencia recently completed a nine-year stint as an Assistant Coach and Goalkeepers Coach for San Bernardino Valley College, where he assisted the women's team to the 2010 California Community College Athletic Association state championship, and the men's team to a pair of Foothill Conference titles and four conference championship finals.
Andrea Garcia and Lorenzo Paredez will serve as Directors for Inland Empire Republic FC. Louis Pacheco is a Team Administrator and the club's Community Ambassador. Ivan Gastelum and Cynthia Pacheco created the club's Design Team.
The club will soon announce tryouts and its upcoming game schedule.
